We Are Pregnant!
Update April 25th:
Broccoli, Cabbage, Okra and Yams just celebrated turning one month old! My goodness how the time flies. These veggies are fully walking, playing with toys and starting to explore.
Okra, our only girl, is already showing us her girl boss energy. She was first to open her eyes, first to get past my puppy baracades and is already learning her sassy bark. Broc and Yams are two peas in a pod and total boys. They play hard and nap even harder. Cabby is a total momma’s boy. While all the other pups are runnin amuck, Cabbage is napping in a new sleeping spot he has discovered, or prancing happily after mom.
Update March 23rd:
It has been a very long night and morning but the best, strongest mom has had her babies. Lacey delivered eight puppies, sadly only four of which survived. Her four babies are lively as ever, and mom is snoring away getting some well deserved rest.
We are all exhausted and heartbroken. But we are grateful for the health of mom, who is taking everything in stride, and for the puppies who are with us ready to start the rest of their lives.
Stay tuned for more updates, as there will be loads. For now, we are all resting. We are taking a deep breath, and sitting in the emotions an experience like this leaves with you.
Thank you to everyone who donated towards Lacey and her puppies. We have less puppies than we thought we would have to care for, but because of you all there will be many more dogs we will be able to help in the future, and that is exactly what we intend to do.
Adopt happiness friends, and give your pet a big hug from us Swamp gals please.
MARCH 13
Lacey is one of the two houndies we scooped up on Leap Day. The shelter was jam packed and begging for help. We went for one and came back with two, and then went back a couple days later for a third (the usual for us.) so needless to say we have been busy ladies.
Lacey honestly caught our eye weeks ago when they posted her as a stray. Something about her happy face, soft eyes and general fuzziness had our hearts and we agreed to take her before even meeting her. Little did we know she had a huge surprise in store for us.
Lacey had her check up recently. She is pretty healthy considering, just some worms we are working to clear up, but we noticed her belly seemed to be getting bigger…our vet confirmed our suspicion and guess what, SWAMP IS PREGNANT!
