Meet Praline and Pimento Cheese
• “It takes a village” • “Rescue never sleeps” • “Shares save lives” •
Well last night all of the above were most definitely true! Tori and I were doom scrolling last week, sending each other screenshots of all the dogs we want to help but can’t (we have a problem, we know) and came across a post that a friend of a friend had shared on Facebook. It was a volunteer’s post from Heard County Animal Control in Georgia, a high kill rural shelter with only eight kennels. Long story short, that animal control reached out about the ittiest little mange babies that were in serious danger of euthanasia and offered to FLY them to us if we could save them. And if you know us at all, that was just an offer we couldn’t refuse!
They were set to land in St. Augustine last night but the weather decided it had other plans and the plane was forced to divert to a different airport in Gainesville, so we hightailed it west for a middle of the night rescue pick up! We got back home after midnight and stayed up even later just trying to help these babies feel safe and settled. They are very shy and reserved, in obvious culture shock, are incredibly malnourished and in need of some serious TLC, but will be brave for treats and that’s always a good place to start.
A huge shout out to Pilots N Paws for their incredible aviation transportation rescue program, our hero pilot Elizabeth for ensuring the safety of her precious cargo even if it meant adding a few more hours to her already late night, and to Karissa Gregory for organizing this amazing rescue effort
