Sookie

Four different foster homes, a couple months in boarding, more vet visits than we can count, one TV and modeling career, and almost one full year looking for her forever home and Sookie is finally, finally home.

Sook was in horrible condition when we laid eyes on her in the way back at the shelter. She was an owner surrender with a slew of health issues and already 12ish years old. It wasn’t a discussion - she was coming with us. A year is a long time for any dog to wait to get adopted, but especially a senior. But Sook, true to who she is, didn’t give a flying crap about age, or arthritis, or not having her forever person, and she spent the year getting healthier and sassier than we ever thought possible. She made herself at home anywhere she went, and gathered more and more adoring subjects along the way. She was just still missing her forever castle to call home. Until now.

Sookie’s new family knew without even meeting her she was the one. They were excited to be Queen Sookie’s “ladies in waiting” and spoil her more rotten than she already was. Their car is now Sookie’s “Queensmobile” for pup cup rides, and she has her very own carriage for trips around the neighborhood so that as mom said, “even on days Sook doesn’t want to walk very far she can still take in all the smells and bark at all the neighborhood dogs she wants.” We are so thrilled Sook has a forever home that loves her for exactly the diva she is.

Sookie surprised us time and time again with her resilience and heart. She has taught us more about strength and passion and knowing exactly what you want and not settling for less. She has reminded us to not care what anyone thinks, and showed us the power of a good foot stomp.

Mom says it best though, “We are blessed to have Miss May. She is a terrible bed hog but her morning prances, walks in the Sookie Cookie Carriage, and time sitting out in the sunshine watching the world go by are an absolute joy. She is loved and gives much love in return. We are forever grateful to you for taking her out of darkness and nursing her back to health so that we could know her.”

Excuse me while I go get a tissue.

Adopt happiness friends.
