Cookie
Cookie was spotted by a previous adopter of ours, right after being dumped in a parking lot. After reaching out to us for advice on what to do, they offered to foster her and we agreed to take on Cookie, even knowing she had a long road ahead medically. It was obvious she had been neglected for some time. She was eaten alive by fleas, underweight, filled with worms, limping, not fixed, and heartworm positive.
Through it all her gentle, sweet personality showed and with her foster family she flourished. A dog who would tuck her whole body so tightly into itself when dogs walked near her started to play and seek attention from her furry foster brother. A timid dog began to run the backyard and greet her foster parents with excitement when they got home. Foster homes are so important, but foster failing has an important place too, and that’s exactly what happened in Cookie’s story.
We had this feeling there was something special about Cookie’s bond to her foster family. She truly lit up when she saw them in a way we hadn’t seen her do before to anyone, and they doted on her with so much empathy and love. We secretly hoped they would foster fail, (though this will be the only time you get us to admit it ) and when we got the text one day that they couldn’t fathom her going anywhere else, our day was made and Cookie was home.
Some dogs just have a way of sneaking into your hearts and staying there, and who would have thought that Cookie was home the moment she drove away from the parking lot she was so heartlessly dumped at. Cookie is finishing up the last of her heartworm treatment this month and she will spend her Christmas safe and surrounded by love.
Happy forever Cookie. You and your adorable wrinkly forehead deserve the world, and we know that now that’s exactly what you’ll get.
